Obama’s Gaffe
Big winner here? John McCain.
The “Liberals think you’re too stupid to make choices” argument is very safe territory for Republicans; which Hillary Clinton should keep in mind as she jumps all over this. But distinctions aside, I have to believe McCain is laughing it up over all this, especially considering the “100 Years” distortion he has had to endure.
“Really, Senator Obama? People are taking your words out of their appropriate context? Spinning them, perhaps?”
(Insert maniacal laughter)

from swimming freestyle:"This video is exactly how Obama should have raised the issue: In the environment these voters live and with an appropriate anger. Rural working class voters have gotten the shaft. They have every right to be frustrated and even bitter about what’s happened to them. Obama now finds himself having to address the issue defensively, Unfortunately, the issue will now likely be obscured by the hysterical anti-Obama rants by the Clintons and McCains. Obama gave them that gift when he spoke in San Francisco last weekend." http://swimmingfreestyle.typepad.com
This specific episode won’t cause much damage to Obama’s prospects- he’s an unlikely pull for white, rural voters in the primary or the general. What’s interesting to me is that up until Wright- Baracl was Teflon, easily warding off personal attacks or bogus character-driven narratives. Post-Wright, such charges are gaining more traction. Whether fair or not, the Wright episode pierced the veil and marked an end to Obama’s long run as beyond the reach of his political opponents. Simply, those punches are now starting to land.
McCain is the beneficiary, as you note, Kevin. In the face of substantive gaffes of his own, he’s in the catbird’s seat- at least for now.

Barack Obama 08!
I am in down under Australia, watching the primaries as it will impact on the world. Potential leadership playing out in it’s own backyard- where hysterical Hilary, having discarded any semblance of fair play, would do us all a wonderful service by disappearing quietly from such an important event.
