Bush and Africa

It’s one of the best kept secrets in politics, but George W. Bush has arguably done more to fight disease and poverty in Africa than any other in our nation’s history.  This obviously doesn’t, in my mind, make up for irresponsible tax breaks, a poorly planned and conceived invasion of Iraq and his absolute failure to fulfill the mission in Afghanistan.  Anyone who reads my blog regularly knows that I don’t think much of the United Nations, but that notwithstanding, the handicap President Bush has placed on American diplomacy is unacceptable.

All of these things will define the president’s legacy, but we shouldn’t dismiss the impact he has had on the African continent in such a short period of time.  The next president will have large shoes to fill when it comes to this issue.
